The latest in new music from Kele, Freya Ridings, The Aces, Janelle Monáe & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.
On rotation this week is the distinguished solo artist and Bloc Party frontman, Kele. He’s offered up his latest musical release, Someone To Make Me Laugh. Taken from his new record, The Flames pt.2 (out 24th March), this new track is a more introspective offering from the indie icon. It boasts a driving drumbeat, a glacial guitar riff, and tender vocals. Established UK songwriter, Freya Ridings has also released a new single. Face In The Crowd is an elegant, piano-led release with soaring vocals and heartbreaking lyricism. Ridings is gearing up to drop her hotly anticipated sophomore record Blood Orange on May 5th. Next up, the effortlessly cool four-piece The Aces, have just shared the glorious new alt-pop single, Always Get This Way. The single is lifted from the band’s forthcoming third studio album, I’ve Loved You For So Long. Elsewhere in the playlist, you can find Nessa Barrett’s new tune, Bang Bang. It’s a high-octane and no holds barred experience thanks to its dark lyricism, huge pop hooks, and slick vocals. You can catch Barrett performing in the UK later this year. Don’t sleep on this artist. Sweden-based artist Joshua Idehen has shared the track, Best Kind Of Lost. The song commands your attention thanks to Idehen’s vocal delivery and the smooth Nu-Jazz production. His new mixtape Learn To Swim is out in April. Speaking about the track, Idehen said: This song’s about a really nice day I spent with my partner that ended with us running from the police cuz we were a little too happy at an illegal forest rave.” Finally, the award-winning artist and actor Janelle Monáe is back. The multifaceted songwriter has shared the new song, Float (featuring Seun Kuti + Egypt 80). It’s a grooving and infectious listen with flawless vocals.
